TUT’s Polokwane Campus sets stage for student success

With the new academic year unfolding, the Faculty of ICT at TUT's Polokwane Campus hosted a four-day bootcamp and welcome event, to officially induct the class of 2026 into the ICT academic community.

Preparing students for life at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), this structured day offered key insights into academic expectations and institutional policies while guiding students on balancing studies with social activities. More than an orientation, the event also assisted students to connect with their peers, lecturers and tutors, helping newcomers establish their identities within TUT.
Dr Khuliso Sigama, Academic Manager of Computer Science, welcomed students by outlining the Faculty’s core values of resilience, excellence, accountability, diversity and stewardship. He emphasized these principles as the foundation of all academic and support initiatives.
Inspiring students as they embark on the new journey, he said: “In everything we do, we aim to ensure you have the best academic experience, pushing boundaries and always striving for excellence.”
Tutors played a vital role, guiding students through the academic landscape. Ezra Magagane, speaking on behalf of the tutors, assured students of their commitment to support them throughout their studies. He highlighted the importance of engaging with course material and seeking help when needed.

Dr Caiphus Setati, Senior Lecturer, encouraged students to extend their University experience beyond academics. He advised them to become involved in student affairs, sport and extracurricular activities, explaining that a well-rounded approach enhances overall success and assist in preparing future-ready graduates for industry.
Lesego Molalatladi, a Cum Laude graduate and current tutor, shared his personal journey and offered practical advice. He stressed the significance of time management, building relationships with faculty staff as well as maintaining good physical and mental health as essential components of academic success.
“Remember, no winner quits, and no quitter wins,” he concluded, emphasising the importance of perseverance, discipline, and determination.
Providing a robust support system and a clear focus on excellence, the Faculty of ICT sets the stage for its new cohort of first-years to thrive academically and personally at TUT.
