The Tshwane University of Technology’s continued upward trajectory has once again been highlighted by it exceeding its 2026 postgraduate enrolment targets agreed upon with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The targets form part of a five-year enrolment plan (2026–2030) aligned to the University's Institutional Strategic Plan (ISP) 2026–2035, which prioritises the growth of postgraduate education and research capacity.
The DHET target for 2026 was 2 539 postgraduate enrolments, comprising 1 800 Master's and 739 Doctoral students. TUT exceeded both targets, enrolling 2 070 master's students and 793 doctoral students, which represents an increase of 15% above target for Master's enrolments and 7.3% above target for Doctoral enrolments.
By exceeding its Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) postgraduate enrolment targets, TUT has once again delivered on its strategic commitments and strengthened its position as one of South Africa's leading universities of technology. The achievement also strengthens the University's research and innovation capacity and positions it to maximise future research output subsidies.
TUT achieved this milestone by implementing a focused institutional strategy in collaboration with its seven faculties, resulting in strong postgraduate enrolment across the University. As applications for the 2027 academic year open, this success confirms TUT's growing appeal as a destination of choice for postgraduate study and reinforces its commitment to developing the next generation of researchers, innovators and knowledge leaders.
