14 April 2026

TUT Law Clinic marked Human Rights Day 2026 with a three-day campaign that delivered free legal services, strengthened access to justice and assisted in empowering communities in Soshanguve.

TUT Law Advicee The campaign targeted the Tshwane University of Technology’s Soshanguve South and North campuses as well as Block L and Block H, offering legal information to students, staff, informal traders, transport operators and residents. The initiative aimed to empower communities with knowledge of their rights and highlight free services provided by the Law Clinic.

Thirty law students participated in the campaign, gaining practical experience under professional supervision. They engaged directly with communities and translated legal theory into accessible information while developing communication skills.

The Law Clinic launched the campaign with an awareness drive on TUT FM, offering free legal advice to a wider audience and building momentum ahead of outreach activities.

TUT Law Advice Centre The initiative strengthened ties between the University and surrounding communities. Residents increasingly recognise TUT as a trusted partner in promoting justice and community well-being.

The campaign supported the University’s strategy to develop future-ready graduates through practical education. It also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by promoting peace, justice, strong institutions, reducing inequality and addressing poverty.

Through initiatives like this, the Law Clinic demonstrates how legal education can create real social impact by bridging theory and practice.
