TUT FM 96.2, the Tshwane University of Technology’s Soshanguve-based campus-community radio station, has elected a new, diverse eight-member Board of Directors that combines wide-ranging expertise in broadcasting, communication, governance, entrepreneurship, education and stakeholder relations.
Dr Lerato Motsisi- Mji
The appointment, confirmed at the station’s Annual General Meeting on 10 June 2026, is expected to strengthen growth, sustainability and innovation while reinforcing the station’s position in South Africa’s university and community radio landscape.
The newly elected board, comprising four women and four men, reflects TUT FM’s commitment to inclusivity, transformation and strong governance. Beyond its entertainment role, the station is widely recognised as a platform for social development, with programming that includes entrepreneurship features, youth empowerment segments and localised news. It has built a loyal listenership across Soshanguve, Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane and the Pretoria CBD.
Reaching more than 60 000 listeners within a 50km radius, TUT FM broadcasts in six languages - English, Sepedi, Setswana, isiZulu, Tshivenda and Xitsonga - bridging campus life and surrounding communities.
Prof Tebogo Rakgogo
TUT FM Station Manager, Kedibone Tshelela, welcomed the appointment, describing the outcome as both necessary and long overdue. She added that the new board brings strong capabilities across marketing and communication, fundraising, skills development, media management and community engagement, expertise that will support the radio station’s strategic objectives as it expands its reach and impact in an evolving digital media environment.
“The appointment of this calibre of leadership will contribute immensely to the growth and development of TUT FM. Their collective experience will help us strengthen governance, unlock new opportunities, attract partnerships and funding and position TUT FM among the leading university and community radio stations in South Africa,” she said.
She added that the board will play a key role in advancing innovation, operational excellence and strategic partnerships as it continues to grow within South Africa’s dynamic digital media space.
