TUT FM 96.2 celebrates Mandela Day with support for families in need

TUT FM 96.2, together with community partners, celebrated Mandela Day by donating grocery hampers and essential food items to vulnerable families. The initiative brought relief to households in need while honouring Nelson Mandela's legacy of selfless service, compassion and ubuntu.

Partnering with Superspar Soshanguve Crossings, Purple Reign and Makopo Holdings. TUT FM 96.2 handed out grocery hampers and essential food items to support vulnerable families.

The station mobilised partners, staff, volunteers and listeners to assist families facing hardship, answering the national call to dedicate 67 minutes to community service. The initiative reflects TUT FM's commitment to serving communities within TUT’s footprint, not only on air but also through practical acts of care and social responsibility.

The hampers, filled with essential groceries, were distributed to identified families in need, providing much-needed support while reinforcing the values of dignity, ubuntu and shared humanity that Mandela championed throughout his life.

Kedibone Tshelela, TUT FM Station Manager, said Mandela Day is a reminder that everyone can make a positive difference.

"Mandela Day reminds us that each of us has the power to make a positive impact. At TUT FM, we believe our responsibility extends beyond the microphone. By reaching out to families in need, we honour Madiba's legacy of compassion, service and nation-building. We are deeply grateful to all our partners and supporters whose generosity made this initiative possible," she said.

Tshelela said partnerships play an important role in creating meaningful change and strengthening community support.

Phillimon Lekalakala, Store Manager at Superspar Soshanguve Crossings, said the initiative celebrated Mandela's legacy while strengthening ties between local businesses and the communities they serve.

"In addition to being a donation, the initiative was a celebration of Madiba's legacy of compassion, unity and service. By joining hands with TUT FM, we were able to extend our reach and strengthen the bond between local businesses and the community we serve," he said.
