Moshibudi Sebola, Operations Manager for Consumer Education at First National Bank led a two-day financial literacy masterclass for first year students at the Tshwane University of Technology Polokwane Campus aimed at shaping responsible financial habits early in the students’ academic journeys.

Hosted in partnership with FNB, the initiative created an opportunity for students studying Entrepreneurship and Administrative Management for a practical learning experience. The masterclass covered budgeting, saving, investing, banking and insurance, while equipping students with tools to make informed financial decisions and build sustainable financial futures.

Sebola stressed the importance of financial education and said understanding financial terminology and concepts forms the foundation for applying them in daily life. “Financial literacy enables individuals to manage money wisely and plan for long term success. This initiative invests in a generation of changemakers by addressing financial knowledge gaps,” she said.

Selaelo Mathokwane, an educator at FNB encouraged students to cultivate disciplined financial habits. “Take control of your money, understand your income and expenses, save for important goals and prioritise needs,” he advised them.

He also warned against unnecessary debt and highlighted the long term impact of poor credit management.

Tetelo Mangena, speaking on behalf of the University, thanked the FNB team for preparing students for financial independence. He encouraged students to apply the knowledge gained and make wise financial decisions as they begin their academic and professional journeys.

Through initiatives such as this masterclass the University advances holistic student development by equipping future leaders with academic knowledge and practical financial skills.
