Refilwe Harnoster crowned winner of TUT Music Idols Season 3

The South African State Theatre in Pretoria came alive on 12 September 2026 as 10 students from across the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) campuses took to the stage to compete for the title of TUT Music Idols Season 3 winner.

Winners of the TUT Music Idols Season 3. After a highly contested finale that showcased strong vocals, creativity and stage presence, Refilwe Harnoster from the Ga-Rankuwa Campus was crowned the 2026 winner.

The competition was organised by the Directorate of Extracurricular Development (DED), in partnership with Tshwane TV, under the theme “Stars of Hope: Find Your Voice, Heal Your Mind”. The theme highlighted the role of music and creative expression in supporting students’ personal development and well-being.

The finalists represented different TUT campuses and brought a variety of musical styles and performances to the stage. Each contestant demonstrated confidence, passion and vocal ability as they competed for the coveted title.

For Harnoster, the experience was about more than winning the competition. She said participating in TUT Music Idols allowed her to meet people from different backgrounds who share her passion for music.

She added that the competition taught her not to give up on herself or to let others' opinions discourage her from pursuing her dreams. She encouraged fellow students to believe in themselves and remain committed to their goals.

Ntandokazi Nhlapo from the eMalahleni Campus was named first runner-up, while Keoratile Rathapane from the Soshanguve South Campus secured the second runner-up position.

Reflecting on the experience, Rathapane said the competition created an opportunity for contestants to interact, share their love for music and showcase their talents.

Beyond the competition, the finale provided students with a platform to develop their talents, gain confidence and connect with the wider TUT community.

TUT Music Idols continues to provide aspiring student musicians an opportunity to develop their craft, celebrate their talent and pursue their creative ambitions beyond the classroom.
