Prof Devroop is Europe-bound for two concerts

Karendra Devroop, Professor of Music at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and a celebrated saxophonist, is on his way to Europe, where he will perform at two international concerts in March.

The first of these will take place in Udine, Italy, where he will perform with an orchestra, playing works by Astor Piazzolla that have been arranged by the internationally acclaimed composer and arranger Trino Jiménez from Venezuela.
Prof Devroop, who is based in the Department of Performing Arts at the TUT Faculty of Arts and Design, will also premiere a new piece by South African composer Dr Chris Jeffrey entitled Movt for Saxophone. Dr Jeffrey arranged this piece specifically for this concert and it will feature Prof Devroop on saxophone, accompanied by a string orchestra.
Prof Devroop's second concert will be in Baesweiler, Germany, with the internationally recognised pianist Gero Körner and his jazz trio. The Gero Körner jazz trio is well known across Europe and includes members of the WDR Big Band, which has won multiple Grammys.
During the concert, the trio will perform pieces from Prof Devroop's 2023 album Dance of the Indentured, as well as works from his 2024 CD Overjoyed, which featured his jazz quartet alongside the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra.
