Operations Management students meet industry experts

The Department of Operations Management at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) recently hosted a workplace preparedness Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) workshop aimed at equipping second- and third-year students with practical knowledge and guidance needed to prepare for the world of work.

More than 128 students enrolled in the Diploma in Operations Management and the Diploma in Work Study attended the workshop. The workshop focused on professional expectations, workplace conduct, industry requirements and the 2027 WIL process.

The workshop combined departmental guidance with valuable input from industry representatives, providing students with an opportunity to engage directly with professionals, ask questions and gain practical insights into workplace readiness and employability.

Dr Ipfi Nemudzivhadi, Section Head: Teaching and Learning, together with the WIL Coordinator, Dr Victor Rambau, from the Department of Operations Management, said the workshop enabled students to gain a clearer understanding of professional behaviour and workplace expectations.

Industry representatives from Standard Bank and Tech Mahindra shared practical perspectives on workplace readiness and employability. Their presentations helped students better understand the expectations they may encounter as they transition from their studies into the professional environment.

The Head of the Department of Operations Management, Dr Thomas Munyai, expressed his appreciation to the industry representatives for sharing their knowledge and expertise with students and for contributing to their preparation for the workplace.

The workshop forms part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to preparing students not only for successful WIL placements, but also for the demands and opportunities of their future careers.
