A vision to make career guidance more accessible for learners became a reality with the official launch of MyCareerTrendz at Pretoria Secondary School. Developed to help learners make informed decisions about subject choices, tertiary education and employment opportunities, the digital platform combines technology, entrepreneurship and student-led innovation to support career planning for young people.

JMS Projects Ltd (Pty) developed MyCareerTrendz, which provides learners with career information, subject selection guidance and pathways to further education and employment opportunities. The platform was founded by Calvin Kunene and Strike Kunene, who identified the need for a technology-driven solution to connect education, career planning and future employment opportunities.

More than a digital application, MyCareerTrendz equips learners with practical tools and relevant information to help them make informed decisions about their futures.

rail Transforming this vision into a working platform required expertise in entrepreneurship, project management, business analysis and software development. Rito Mabasa, Informatics student, led the project as Project Manager and Business Analyst. Mncedisi Mthembu and Vundla Philani Siyabonga, Computer Science students, developed the software.

Their contribution demonstrates how University students can apply their knowledge to address real-world challenges while gaining valuable industry experience. The project also highlights the value of interdisciplinary collaboration in creating technology solutions that address societal needs.

Learners, educators, industry representatives and strategic partners attended the launch, where enthusiasm for the platform reflected growing demand for accessible digital tools that support educational and career decision-making.

Given Wageng's presence as a representative from SENTECH SOC Ltd, the organisation’s commitment to innovation, digital transformation and youth development was reflected. Representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation also joined the launch, highlighting opportunities for collaboration in education, technology and entrepreneurship.

The successful development and launch of MyCareerTrendz also showcase the role of the Rail Manufacturing Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator (RMCERI) in supporting innovation. Through its incubation ecosystem, RMCERI assists entrepreneurs, innovators and students in developing technology-driven solutions that address real-world challenges and contribute to South Africa’s digital economy.

The platform offers a valuable resource for learners at Pretoria Secondary School as they make decisions about subjects, careers, tertiary education, and employment. As MyCareerTrendz expands into schools and communities, it reflects its founders’ vision while showcasing the capabilities of South Africa’s emerging innovators.

RMCERI congratulated JMS Projects Ltd (Pty), founders Calvin and Strike Kunene, the TUT student development team, Pretoria Secondary School, SENTECH SOC Ltd, the Embassy of the Russian Federation and all stakeholders who contributed to this milestone.
