Students and staff at the Tshwane University of Technology’s Mbombela Campus joined forces in a campus-wide clean-up campaign led by Campus Rector, Dr Ndiadivha Tempia, on 13 May 2026. The initiative promoted environmental stewardship, student engagement and campus pride while reinforcing a culture of accountability and excellence.
During the hands-on campus cleaning campaign, students, student leaders, Student Affairs and Extracurricular Development (SAED) and staff all got their hands dirty to ensure a healthier and more conducive learning environment.
The initiative saw participants collecting waste, including empty bottles, paper and plastics, while clearing overgrown areas and beautifying key sections of campus as part of the campaign’s greening component.
According to Dr Tempia, the campaign reflected the values the campus would like to promote and instil in students and staff.
“A clean campus is not just about aesthetics - it reflects our values of discipline, pride and ownership,” she said. “I am proud to see our students and student leaders taking the lead in maintaining our space. This is the kind of culture we want to build at TUT Mbombela.”
Student leaders described the campaign as motivating and praised Dr Tempia’s active participation.
One SRC representative said seeing the Rector working alongside students delivered a strong message about teamwork and leadership through action.
The campaign included various student societies, political structures and campus staff, highlighting a united commitment to environmental responsibility and student wellness.
Campus management confirmed that the initiative will become a regular activity and form part of ongoing student wellness and sustainability programmes.
Dr Tempia has prioritised accountability, stewardship, academic excellence and a high-performance culture since assuming office earlier this year.
The TUT Mbombela Campus continues to strengthen its reputation as a forward-thinking institution that values academic growth and environmental stewardship.
