ICT Faculty encourages future tech talent at Eskom Career Expo

With technology shaping industries and creating new career opportunities, nearly 200 learners from surrounding schools explored possible futures in Information and Communication Technology during the Eskom Career Expo at Kendal Power Station. The event gave learners valuable insight into academic pathways, career options and the growing demand for ICT professionals.

Student Support Coordinator, Siyabonga Mthombeni exhibiting at Eskom Kendal Power Station. The Tshwane University of Technology's Faculty of Information and Communication Technology’s (FoICT) participation in the Career Expo, reinforced its commitment to career guidance and community engagement.

Learners from the Botleng Secondary School, Phaphamani Secondary School and Mafa Max Secondary School attended the event, which created an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about academic programmes and career pathways in the rapidly evolving ICT sector.

Siyabonga Mthombeni, Student Support Coordinator, represented the Faculty and engaged with learners and Eskom employees throughout the day. He provided information about the Faculty’s academic programmes, admission requirements, application processes and student support services.

The expo also helped learners gain a deeper understanding of the role technology plays in driving innovation and economic development. Learners explored the growing demand for ICT professionals across various industries and discovered how technology careers can help shape the future.

Siyabonga Mthombeni, Student Support Coordinator, highlighted the importance of outreach initiatives in helping learners make informed decisions about their futures.

“Career exhibitions create valuable opportunities for us to connect directly with prospective learners, provide accurate information about our academic offerings and inspire them to pursue careers in Information and Communication Technology. We are committed to supporting learners as they prepare for higher education and the future world of work,” he said.

The Faculty’s participation is part of its recruitment and community engagement efforts aimed at broadening access to higher education and encouraging young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and innovation.

By connecting with learners at an early stage, the Faculty of ICT continues to open pathways to higher education and inspire the next generation of technology professionals.
