High notes and higher marks as singer graduates Cum Laude

Rorisang Sechele recently received her Postgraduate Diploma in Performing Arts cum laude, balancing a rising music career with academic excellence and setting her sights on postgraduate studies.

Rorisang-ed Rorisang Sechele Graduating with a Postgraduate Diploma in Performing Arts (Music) was a major academic milestone alongside her growing music career.

The Pretoria-born artist released her debut album, The Seed, in 2025 and plans to release more music this year. She continues to blend jazz and soul, creating sonic canvases for lyrical introspection and self-empowerment while excelling in her studies.

Sechele described completing her qualification as an amazing experience and a moment worth celebrating with her family. She said balancing her music career with her studies was challenging, but careful planning helped her succeed.

“It was difficult, but I’m a serial planner. I plan like it is nobody’s business. I always try to stay ten steps ahead. Planning and managing my time helped me get through. It wasn’t always easy, but I am glad we are here; we are in full bloom. We did it,” she said.

She now plans to pursue a Master’s Degree and ultimately a PhD, continuing her journey of academic and creative excellence.

Sechele is also a part-time lecturer in the Department of Performing Arts at the Faculty of Arts and Design, where she helps shape the next generation of creatives.

She thanked the University for supporting her academic journey and enabling her to receive her qualification certificate on her graduation day, marking a full-circle moment.
