Ga-Rankuwa Career Tech Expo opens doors to digital futures

The Faculty of Information and Communication Technology’s (FoICT) active participation at the Ga-Rankuwa Career Tech Expo highlights its commitment to inspiring and guiding future ICT professionals, fostering pride among stakeholders and students alike.

Career Tech Expo4 TUT staff, and stakeholders from various organisations. During the expo in May 2026, the Top 10 Grade 12 learners from Tebogwana School of Specialisation, Kgatoentle Secondary School, LEAP Maths and Science Secondary School, and Setlalentoa Secondary School had an opportunity to experience the dynamic world of ICT through a variety of exhibitions and presentations, while it also featured key stakeholders, including ALX Africa and Grey Code, as well as academic representatives.

The event, hosted at YMCA, Ga Rankuwa Hall, created a dynamic space for exposure, learning and career exploration within the fast-growing ICT sector, inspiring learners about the vast opportunities ahead.

Topics ranged from robotics and networking to cybersecurity, digital identity, electronics, and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) careers. The Department of Computer Systems Engineering (CSE) opened the session with a welcome address delivered by Prof Du Chunling, HoD for the Department of CSE, setting a strong academic tone for the day.

The department showcased the following presentations:

  • Computer Systems Engineering & Electronics by Zanele Mahlobogwane
  • Introduction to Robotics by Ipeleng Labius Machele
  • Networking - The Backbone of Modern Technology by Mukatshung Claude Nawej

These presentations provided learners with practical insights into the design, connection and automation of modern computing systems, with a focus on real-world applications. The Department of Information Technology focused on responsible digital engagement and cybersecurity awareness, making the content directly relevant to learners' digital lives and future careers.

Career Tech Expo 1 Setlalentoa Secondary School. Prof Topside Mathonsi, Department of IT HOD, delivered a compelling presentation titled Your Digital Footprint: Destroying or Defining Your Future?, challenging learners to consider the long-term impact of their online presence.

Dr Tshimangadzo Tshilongamulenzhe followed with an insightful session on Understanding Computer Security and Device Communication for End Users, equipping learners with essential knowledge on safe digital practices and how devices interact in modern networks.

Representing the Department of Informatics, Dr Tendani Luvhengwa, presented 4IR+ Informatics Thinking Careers, illustrating how informatics is shaping future industries and creating new career pathways driven by data, systems thinking, and digital transformation. This session aimed to inspire learners to pursue ICT careers by showcasing the vast opportunities emerging from digital innovation.

The expo united academia, industry partners, schools and learners, demonstrating the value of collaboration in preparing learners for a rapidly evolving digital world.
