From the VC’s Desk: Appointment of Dr Azwitamisi Shadrack Nthangeni as Deputy Vice Chancellor: Operations

It gives me pleasure to announce that the Council of the University has appointed Dr Azwitamisi Shadrack Nthangeni as Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Operations, effective from 1 August 2026.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr Azwitamisi Shadrack Nthangeni Dr Nthangeni, who hails from Khubvi Village in the Limpopo Province, brings to the position a wealth of experience, skills and qualifications accumulated over more than 25 years of dedicated service at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

His distinguished career at TUT encompasses roles as Lecturer in Sport Management; Academic Section Head: Marketing, Logistics and Sport Management; Director of Sport and Recreation; Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Affairs and Extracurricular Development; Executive Director: Student Affairs and Extracurricular Development, and most recently Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Operations.

Dr Nthangeni is a proven academic leader of exceptional insight and much experience. He has a deep commitment to the values of TUT, namely: excellence, resilience, accountability, stewardship and diversity. Over the past few years Dr Nthangeni has been invited to serve on strategic national and international boards such as:

• Boxing South Africa (2020–2023) and National Spokesperson
• Chairperson of the Funding Committee of the Gauteng Film Commission (2022–2023)
• Chief Financial Officer, NEC of University Sport South Africa (USSA) (2017–2023)
• Deputy Chef de Mission for Team South Africa at the World Student Games (2017, 2019, and 2023)
• Independent Member of the CATHSSETA FINREMCO (2020–2025)

Council could not have appointed a more qualified person in the pivotal role of DVC: Operations. We look forward to Dr Nthangeni’s contribution to moving TUT from good to great and the implementation of the TUT vision of building the Entrepreneurial University of Technology.
