With six matric distinctions, Didinthle Maselwa has enrolled in Architecture at TUT, bringing a journey from a Northern Cape village to Centurion, shaped by resilience, creativity and vision.
Didintle Maselwa is ready to turn her creativity and passion into designs that tell stories and inspire communities.
Joining the Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Architecture and Industrial Design, the 19-year-old Didintle, who was raised by her grandparents in a small village, says watching them build their own home shaped her understanding of architecture as more than buildings. For her, it is about family, community and the stories that deserve to be told.
A lifelong creative, she sees architecture as a space where art, problem-solving and purpose meet. Her goal is to design spaces that serve communities and reflect culture and heritage.
Her matric journey came with challenges, which she overcame through faith and strong support from family and teachers. Their encouragement helped her persevere when the pressure felt overwhelming.
Choosing TUT was both personal and practical. Her mother studied at the institution, and the University’s hands-on teaching approach stood out for her. As a visual learner, Maselwa says the department’s practical focus made TUT the right choice.
As she begins her studies, Maselwa looks forward to University life, new perspectives and creative growth. She hopes to use architecture to address social issues, express our unique South African identity and create meaningful, sustainable spaces that connect people.
