Prospective students in Limpopo received first-hand academic and career guidance when the Tshwane University of Technology’s Faculty of Economics and Finance joined the University’s recruitment team at the recent Vhembe District career expo. The four-week-long recruitment drive connected Grade 12 learners with institutions of higher learning, helping them explore study opportunities, admission requirements and career paths.

The student recruitment drive gave Grade 12 learners the opportunity to engage with various institutions and obtain accurate information about the learning programmes offered across the higher education sector. Hundreds of schools across Limpopo participated in the initiative, allowing learners to interact directly with exhibitors and learn more about application processes and admission requirements.
More than 20 institutions, including public and private higher education institutions, showcased a variety of programmes. Learners were able to compare courses, funding opportunities and study options available at different institutions.
Addressing learners during the expo, exhibitors encouraged them to aim for strong Grade 12 results to improve their chances of admission to their preferred programmes.
Kgomotso Mokoena, Faculty of Economics and Finance marketer, said learners should strive for excellence rather than meeting only the minimum admission requirements.
“The minimum requirement will only secure a spot for you on condition that you pass your matric with good marks. We receive thousands of applications each year. Remember that you will also be competing with those who matriculated last year and were not accepted. When we receive applications, we start with the cream of the crop. If you aim to be an average student, then competition will be tough,” said Mokoena.
Exhibitors also guided learners on courses that matched their subject streams, strengths, interests and future career aspirations.
Life Orientation teachers attending the exhibition received TUT prospectuses and were encouraged to use them to guide Grade 9 learners when selecting subject streams aligned with their intended fields of study.
Learners showed enthusiasm throughout the expo, asking relevant questions and using the opportunity to navigate the University’s website and explore future study possibilities.
The TUT message was clear – “From your first year to your first job move — your journey starts here. Step into your future with the Tshwane University of Technology.”
