Hard work, determination and academic excellence took centre stage at the Tshwane University of Technology’s Soshanguve North Campus when top-performing students from the Department of Mathematics, Science and Business Education (MSBE) received recognition for their achievements across several teaching specialisations.
Ayanda Hadebe receives the overall top achiever award for MSBE outstanding academic performance.
The Faculty of Humanities honoured students specialising in Mathematics, Science, Life Sciences, Consumer Studies, Hospitality Studies, Accounting, Economics and Business Education during a celebration of academic achievement and professional growth.
Nompulelo Mbokane, Research Student Assistant and Patricia Kgokane, Departmental Administrator, said MSBE focuses on developing competent, ethical and innovative future educators who will make meaningful contributions to society and education.
“The purpose of the ceremony is to acknowledge students who are working hard and to encourage them to continue excelling so that their recognition can be highlighted,” said Mbokane.
Vutlhari Maimele, a student recipient, received the second-best achiever award in Economic and Management Sciences. She described recognition as rewarding and motivating, saying that she had consistently dedicated time to her studies and supported fellow students academically.
“The fact that I received this recognition is a reflection that this is only the beginning and that I can achieve greater things,” she said. “I have realised my potential and I am intrinsically motivated to achieve more and go further academically.”
Ayanda Hadebe, the overall top achiever, encouraged students to focus on personal growth rather than competition with others.
Vulthari Maimele received second-best achiever award in EMS.
He advised students to manage their time effectively, work at their own pace and avoid unnecessary pressure that may affect academic performance.
Hadebe also encouraged students to engage with the Student Development and Support division for study strategies and academic guidance while building positive relationships with fellow students.
The ceremony also aimed to inspire students to pursue academic and professional success while promoting leadership, professionalism and commitment to the teaching profession.
The Department of Mathematics, Science and Business Education is part of four departments within the School of Education in the Faculty of Humanities at TUT.
