A Tale of Two VCs…and a book

Academics

13 February 2026

On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of TUT, Prof Tinyiko Maluleke, we invite students and staff to the VCs Book of the Month on 20 February at the Pretoria Campus - starting at 10:00.

Two-VCs The book in question is titled: From Predator to Prey: Leadership Lessons from the African Wild and Beyond, which is the latest book written by internationally acclaimed legal scholar, the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Johannesburg, Professor Letlhokwa George Mpedi.

In this book, Mpedi provides a fresh and unique approach to the subject of leadership in the 21st Century. He invites his readers to join him in an imaginary ‘walk’ across a national park, to learn deep lessons about leadership from animals in the wild.

Through the TUT VC Book of the Month we foster a reading culture, encourage intellectual curiosity and the exploration of ideas.

Mpedi’s From Predator to Prey: Leadership Lessons from the African Wild and Beyond, is eminently suited to foster the ideals for which the TUT VC Book of the Month series was established.

Come all you who think you have little or nothing to learn about leadership from ants, mosquitoes and wild dogs. You who never thought hippos and rhinos can teach you anything; come and be amazed. Prof Mpedi has produced a book that is a profound as it is entertaining. It is witty. It is funny. And it is wild.

This is a special and unique occasion, where two VCs will be in conversation about leadership, during a critical moment in the history of (South) Africa. It’s also a rare moment of public intellectual engagement between two Vice Chancellors.

You don’t want to miss this event. It’s gonna be insightful and inspirational. It’s gonna be lit!!

For in-person or virtual attendance details and further updates, follow TUT’s official channels. UJ Radio and UJ TV will all be there.
