TUT strengthens global scientific ties with iThemba LABS and JINR

Aimed at strengthening its global scientific footprint, the Tshwane University of Technology recently hosted a high-level delegation from iThemba LABS and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

DrVee Dr Vathiswa Papu-Zamxaka welcoming the guests. The visit affirmed TUT’s growing role in international research networks and its commitment to advancing world-class scientific collaboration.

Led by Dr Vathiswa Papu-Zamxaka, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research Innovation and Engagement and JINR delegation head, Dr Dmitry Kamanin, the engagement focused on expanding joint research, promoting innovation and opening new opportunities for students and staff. TUT highlighted its expanding research capabilities, strategic priorities and vision for deeper global engagement.

The JINR delegation showcased their state-of-the-art nuclear research infrastructure training platforms and long-standing record of international collaboration. A detailed presentation by the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technology outlined opportunities for partnership in high-performance computing, data science modelling and digital research technologies.

By the end of the visit, both institutions were committed to strengthening cooperation across key academic and research fields. Plans include deeper collaboration with the Faculties of Information and Communication Technology, Science as well as Engineering and the Built Environment, increased student and staff exchanges, as well as expanded multidisciplinary research in nuclear sciences, computational technologies, engineering and other applied sciences.

All collaborative efforts will be coordinated through iThemba LABS as the central partner. The visit reaffirmed TUT’s dedication to growing international scientific partnerships that boost research excellence and global competitiveness.
