#FromGoodtoGreat
Established in 2004, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is a leading African university of technology, offering world-class technology education and applied sciences to more than sixty-thousand students from across South Africa and the African continent.
In 2026, TUT will start rolling out a visionary new ten-year Institutional Strategic Plan, which will also enable us to build entrepreneurial communities, one graduation cohort, one alumni chapter and one generation of staff members at a time.
By 2024, TUT was ranked among the top 13 universities in South Africa by, amongst others, the Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR). In teaching and learning there are several interesting aspects that set the University apart. Courses offered by TUT are entrepreneurship-based to equip students with the skills to contribute actively to the economy. In addition, the University is the only tertiary institution in South Africa with a stand-alone Faculty of ICT offering diverse fields of study. The SunChaser Solar Car, designed and built by the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment, was placed fourth internationally and first nationally in the 2018 Sasol Solar Car Challenge hosted in South Africa and has won numerous challenges since then.
