Welcome to the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).

We are committed to safeguarding the dignity, rights, and welfare of research participants while enabling innovative, responsible, and high-quality research across all faculties of the University.

The HREC is a registered Institutional Review Board (IRB 00005968) with the U.S. Office for Human Research Protections and holds Federal Wide Assurance for International Institutions (FWA 00011501). In South Africa, we are fully registered with the National Health Research Ethics Council (REC-220508-008).

Our role is to review, approve, and monitor all research involving human participants, data, biological materials, or interventions conducted within TUT or by its researchers, as well as projects carried out in the TUT environment by external investigators.
