Accommodation, Residence Life and Catering
The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is one of the largest residential educational institutions in South Africa. There are private student accommodation options, but first-year students should apply and register for University-owned accommodation, managed by ARLC. ARLC accommodation has the advantage of being on campus, or reliable transport provided by the University, if situated off campus. ARLC residences are furthermore well managed with experienced residence advisors, a strong governance system with many residence life opportunities organised by residence committees. There is furthermore a mentorship programme, according to which residents are placed according to course of study. Mentors are appointed for each resident to provide academic and mental well-being support.

Resident living and learning
Student life programmes in residences are organised to meet the out-of class needs of all residents. These activities not only focus on inclusion and cohesion, but also mental wellness.
Mentorship programme
Since it is compulsory for all first-year students to participate in the mentorship programme, students will be placed in specific residences according to their academic courses.
When to apply for residence accommodation
When a student applies for academic acceptance at TUT, they should also indicate their need for student accommodation. Applicants will be notified when they have been provisionally placed in a residence. Once a student has registered for academic study, he/she must register on-line in a residence to secure a space. Available spaces are filled on a first-come-first-served basis. With regard to residence application and registration, the following applies:
- Only on-line applications submitted to TUT will be taken into consideration.
- Admission to a residence is possible only after successful academic acceptance and depends on the availability of space.
- Successful applicants will be notified from November.
- Late applications will not be considered for placement.
- If ARLC residence spaces have been filled, applicants will be referred for private accommodation.
