Professor Felix Dakora

DST-NRF SARChI Chair in Agrochermurgy and Plant Symbioses, Tier1
Primary discipline: Biological Sciences (2007-2021)

Prof Dakora completed his PhD degree in Botany in 1989 at the University of Western Australia. He works on Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) with a focus on the plant, the interaction between microbe and host plant, as well as the microsymbiont itself.

​Prof Dakora has an NRF B2 rating, has been widely published in many international scientific journals with over 85 peer reviewed journal articles, 12 book chapters, and nine peer-reviewed conference proceedings. He is also the editor of a book published by Springer entitled: Biological Nitrogen Fixation: Towards Poverty Alleviation through Sustainable Agriculture.

Prof Dakora enjoys international recognition as researcher and knows almost everything there is to know about research. With 24 years of work experience which includes 14 years of postdoctoral research in Africa and North America, a variety of professorships at numerous national and international higher education institutions, heading various research departments, there is hardly anybody who can meet his experienced research career.

He is a popular speaker at conferences and seminars and has delivered and read a large number of keynote addresses and papers at national and international conferences,  published countless articles in journals, books and other publications.  More than 20 students successfully completed postgraduate studies under the supervision of Prof Dakora. He serves on a number of scientific committees, associations and acts as consultant for various review panels.

Prof Dakora​’s field of expertise and research specialisation is botany research with focus on:​​

  • ​Biological nitrogen fixation
  • Nitrogen metabolism
  • Plant physiology​​​​

The Research Chair in Agrochemurgy and Plant Symbioses is a branch of applied chemistry concerned with preparing products from agricultural raw materials.  It is a wide-ranging discipline involving chemistry, genetics, bacteriology and physics.​​​​
