Protecting Nature’s Beauty, a winning theme for TUT’s best
Three students from the Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Fine & Applied Arts, Jewellery Design & Manufacture Programme has just scooped the first three positions in the annual De Beers 2016/17 Shining Light Awards. VC’s seminar shines spotlight on decolonisation and Africanisation

Sibling becomes first benefactor of Benjamin Phehla memorial bursary
Evans Phehla, has just become the first recipient of the memorial bursary fund established in honour of his late brother, Benjamin Phehla. Benjamin died in October last year after being knocked down by a car during the #FeesMustFall protest at the Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Soshanguve Campus. An emotional Evans, a first-year Computer Systems Engineering student, said he is grateful for the bursary and promised to work hard to make his family proud.

TUT Bursary and Scholarship Fund reaches the R14 million mark
The Tshwane University of Technology Bursary and Scholarship Fund has achieved another milestone in its quest to grow to R50 million before the end of 2019, following an R11,4 million injection by ABSA over the next three years into the fund. The donation was made at a function hosted at on the Pretoria Campus yesterday, 11 May, and was attended by dignitaries representing the banking giant and the University.

TUT’s Bursary and Scholarship Fund has added another donor to its already long list of loyal supporters yesterday, 3 May, when FUNDI Capital Pty Ltd, a leading South African education finance and education fund management solution specialist, donated R75 000 to the fund.

Sport Management graduates benefit from internship initiative
Thirty graduates from the Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Marketing, Logistics and Sport Management, will benefit from internships funded by the Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality, and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA). This was announced at the official launch of the CATHSSETA Sport Management internship programme.

TUT signs valuable agreement with Zensar Technologies
In light of the fast growing dependence on digital technologies, information technology and the rapid digitisation of business processes across the globe, the Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) just signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zensar Technologies Ltd to strengthen their already existing partnership. This includes, but is not limited to specialised in-service training for Faculty of ICT students.

TUT Alumnus, genius medical technology scientist
Tshwane University of Technology alumnus, Marthinus Bekker, has once again proved to be the new age “Macgyver” with his latest invention - the Unified Incubation and Detection System (UIDS). This is his second invention in only four years, following the ‘The Rain Catcher’, a device he invented in 2012 that can collect hundreds of litres of drinking water when placed outside in the rain.

Finnish counsellor hails excellence of TUT graduates
An international educational partnership concluded between the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Finland and the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) just produced 32 graduates in Vocational Teacher Education. The graduation ceremony took place at the Business School on 17 February 2017.

TUT Chancellor appointed a snew MEC of Health in Gauteng
Monday, 6 February 2017 saw the Tshwane University of Technology’s Chancellor, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, being sworn in as the new MEC for Health in Gauteng. Dr Ramokgopa previously also served a term as Deputy Minister of Health and MEC for Health in Gauteng respectively.
