During the function, honorary members received certificates and awards. They are: Phumla Msibi, Senior Development Officer at TUT; Prof David Katerere, Research Platform Chair of Pharmaceutical and Biotech Advancement in Africa (PBA2) at TUT; Prof Okechukwu Jonathan Okonkwo, Nigerian-born professor emeritus of Environmental Chemistry at TUT; and Shalate Portia Davhana, Manager: Alumni Relations and Fundraising at TUT.
In her opening address, Gillian Cloete, Director of Golden Key in Southern Africa, said the event aimed at commending and commemorating the remarkable achievements of our esteemed new members in Golden Key International Honour Society.
“It is with great pleasure and utmost pride that we acknowledge the unwavering dedication, tireless efforts and exceptional aptitude displayed by these individuals to earn this esteemed honour.”
“True excellence resides not only in external acknowledgment but also in the constant pursuit of personal growth, mastery and a commitment to making a positive impact on society. Each of our new members has displayed these qualities, prompting us to wholeheartedly celebrate their accomplishments today,” she added.
“I urge our new members to never lose sight of the journey that has brought you to this remarkable moment. Your induction into this honourable society signifies the acknowledgment of your accomplishments, but it also carries the responsibility to continue striving for excellence. Embrace and navigate the challenges that lie ahead, knowing that deep within you possess the skills, knowledge and determination necessary to surmount any obstacle. Most importantly, remember that true excellence is not exclusive but inclusive. Collaborate, share your wisdom and motivate others to reach for greatness alongside you,” she concluded.
Thanking Golden Key, Phumla said: “I am privileged to have been honoured by the Golden Key International Honour Society. My position as the co-advisor has been an absolute pleasure thus far. Seeing the TUT Chapter grow to a membership that exceeds 150 in such a short space of time, has been a great experience. I look forward to growing with the chapter and celebrating more milestones.”
