TUT strengthens ties with Sweden’s top Agricultural University

On Thursday, 25 May 2023, the Division for Internationalisation at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) held a meeting with a delegation from the leading Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), to encourage partnerships for student and staff exchange programmes abroad.

TUT and Swedish delegates building collaborative research opportunities into study abroad programs.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Engagement, Dr Vathiswa Papu-Zamxaka who welcomed the distinguished visitors said, “The fact that a leading and notable Agriculture University in Sweden is meeting with us is testament to the role and impact the university is having, not only in South Africa but also on the continent.”

“Discussions with the delegation further represents a window of opportunity for TUT and Swedish Universities to partner in research collaboration, teaching, student exchange and the sharing of resources. This is post the SASUF meeting that took place earlier this year” concluded Dr Papu-Zamxaka.

Also in attendance was Prof Ylva Hillbur, Vice Rector, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), further explained that Research collaboration between Sweden and South Africa is strong and indicated that opportunities for growth should always be fostered.

The Interaction between Swedish delegation and TUT was nurtured and collaborative agreements will be finalised.

Some of the low hanging fruits include:

  • Joint research.
  • Academic exchange programs for students and staff.
  • Co-supervision of students.
  • Funding beyond Erasmus plus.
  • Collaboration and stakeholder engagement via the Swedish Embassy in SA and SA Embassy in Sweden.
  • Dual-doctoral programmes
