Brilliant pharmaceutical sciences lecturer receives Ubuntu Youth Award

Nsovo Mayimele, lecturer at Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences received the Ubuntu Youth Diplomacy Award presented by the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor. The Ubuntu Awards hosted annually, took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 11 February 2023.

Speaking at the awards ceremony Department of International Relations and Cooperation Minister, Dr Naledi Pandor, said: “I am honoured to shine a light on South Africans who have distinguished themselves in promoting our national interests, our talents, and values around the world as ambassadors of our country.” 

Dr Pandor further said the awards celebrate excellence and are the department’s way of honouring excellence. Nominees and award recipients at the event each championed the essence of the meaning of ubuntu, an ancient African philosophy that speaks to having compassion for others and lending energy to uplifting communities.

Nsovo has served South Africa and the global community through her skills in healthcare, development and policy. 

She is a celebrated award-winning contributor and voice for advocacy in access to healthcare and women’s health. Her voice and service has been observed on global platforms, such as the World Health Organisation. 

In addition, Nsovo is currently working with the African Union’s Development Agency NEPAD, to coordinate for local manufacturing of medicines within the African continent in order to address medicine access inequalities that Africa experienced during the pandemic.
