The Council on Higher Education (CHE) Institutional Audit, which commenced on Monday, July 25, is in full swing. The audit evaluates the coherence and effectiveness of TUT’s Quality Management System in enabling the quality of the core academic functions and student success.

"The audit panel, comprising ten members, of which one is an international expert in distance and online teaching and learning, started its virtual interview sessions with Prof Tinyiko Maluleke, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, followed by a session with the Executive Management Committee (EMC)," says Emily Mabote, Director: Quality Promotion. She and her team drive and oversee the institutional audit.

Various other University stakeholders, such as Council members, Union representatives, Campus Rectors, Institutional Forum members, Executive Deans, Heads of Departments, lecturers, student leaders, alumni, etc., have also been or will still be engaged for their views on the University’s efforts in managing the quality of Teaching, Learning, Research and Community Engagement and enabling student success.

On Friday, July 29, the last day of the audit, the panel will visit several of the University’s campuses to view laboratories, library services, computer labs, student recreational areas, learning and study spaces, etc.

Following the campus tours, a de-briefing session will be held, culminating in a final meeting where oral feedback will be given to Prof Maluleke and the EMC. "The latter will consist of the panel’s preliminary observations during the week," Emily concludes.

A draft Institutional Audit report containing findings and recommendations will be released within three to four months after the site visit.

The University community will have an opportunity to comment on the factual correctness of the findings.
