The purpose of the launch of the Sport Ambassador programme is to include the former athletes who have retired from active competition, to participate and help mentor and coach within the School Sport Programme. Through this, the DSAC aims to revitalise the participation of learners in school sport, especially at the school level.
Speaking on the appointment, Dr Shadrack Nthangeni, Acting Executive Director said that the University is honored to be a key stakeholder in the sport ambassador programme. “Without a doubt, School sport remains the bedrock of sport development in the country and a priority focus for our sport developments initiatives. We are grateful for the recognition and the partnership opportunity”, said Dr Nthangeni
The Sport Ambassador Programme will be launched as a pilot project in four sporting codes, i.e., Athletics, Football, Netball and Rugby.
The DSAC Minister, Nathi Mthethwa will also be present at the launch, accompanied by the provincial MEC’s of both the sport, arts and culture & education portfolios, including delegates from the following federations, SASCOC, Athletics, Football, Netball and Rugby.
