TUT duo behind Somizi’s showstopper outfit

8 October 2020

Two alumni students from the Department of Design Studies (Fashion Design) have been trending on social media during September for designing a spectacular outfit that SA Idols judge, Somizi Mhlongo-Motaung, wore during one of the shows.

Somizi started a competition for young designers to design an outfit for him to wear during this year’s Idols season. Ten designers were handpicked countrywide out of 100 sketches that were submitted for the design challenge.

Fortune Skhosana and Mahlatse Mahlangu were part of the ten finalists and they had impressed both Somizi and the media with their incredible yellow and gold outfit.

Fortune and Mahlatse, who are the co-business partners of the fashion brand VOCH & GOCH, were excited to be selected as part of “Somgaga‘s” wardrobe design team. Fortune graduated with a B Tech: Fashion Design two years ago, and Mahlatse is currently studying for a Master’s in Fashion.
