Lethabo Mashabela (20), a third-year Tshwane University of Technology Architecture student, has taken social media by storm with his drawings of Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, professionally known as Nasty C, a South African rapper, songwriter and record producer.

One of Lethabo’s drawings of Nasty C.

One of the drawings re-posted on Nasty C’s Instagram profile, got no fewer than 53 600 likes (and counting!), also from other celebrities.

Of course, Lethabo’s friends and followers on his own social media platforms also gave the images a thumbs-up.

The up-and-coming architect, who stays in Pretoria West, says his interest in drawing has been sparked at primary school. “Drawing eases my mind when I’m stressed,” he says.

“You would always find me with a pencil and paper. While my peers were playing, I would be sketching outside and challenge myself to draw whatever I see. I would draw cartoons every day and looked at Japenese animated shows to find something to turn into a picture," he adds.

Lethabo has advanced his work digitally and uses Adobe software to covert the pictures into cartoons. "I have noticed that paper can get damaged and lost at some time. So, I decided to transform my drawings digitally."

"Sometimes, I take pictures of celebrities and convert them into cartoon figures, such as Nasty C,” Lethabo adds.

"He (Nasty C) reacted immediately after he saw my work and said that he is a big fan. Who knows where it can take my career as an artist?”
