A people’s university that makes knowledge work

20 September 2019

This is TUT’s inspiring new vision that will set the course for the University over the next six years.

On 23 August 2019, Council approved the new Institutional Strategic Plan (ISP:2020 – 2025), following extensive consultations with staff across the University.

“We started with the crafting of the new ISP in 2018, workshopping and consulting with staff across the faculties, directorates, as well as with labour and statutory committees such as the Institutional Forum, Institutional Management Committee and the Executive Management Committee,“ says Dr Dhaya Naidoo, Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Technology.

This process resulted in one of the most exciting and practicable new strategic plans that will impact the positioning of TUT within the higher education sector locally, in Africa and internationally.

The new ISP rests on four key pillars, namely:

  • Creating future-ready graduates who will make a positive societal impact.
  • Producing impactful research, innovation, engagement and technology transfer to foster growth, development and sustainability.
  • Service and operational excellence.
  • Becoming a digitally-advanced University.

Following the approval of the new strategic plan, the Executive Management Committee, the Institutional Management Committee and Directors from across the University attended a workshop to start the process of aligning all the portfolio strategic plans with the new ISP and to develop the new Annual Performance Plan (APP) for 2020.

“The creation of our new ISP and the development of the APP clearly demonstrate the power of teamwork and how we can collectively take the University forward to address socio-economic needs in society,” says Prof Lourens van Staden, Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
