The venue, situated on the Education Campus of the University of the Witwatersrand, is a prominent concert and cultural venue widely recognised for its acoustic merits.
For the past years, Vocal Art has staged several theatre opera productions which rival international standards in terms of musical aesthetic and technical prowess. Each of these productions focused on a specific story, told through a libretto with composed music resulting in the composer’s distinctive style that overarches the identity of the opera.
On the contrary, in the Opera Gala, a selection of arias, duets, trios, ensembles and choruses from different composers and style periods present a variety of notable opera numbers that will delight the audience. As is the tradition, the Gala will be accompanied by an orchestra which provides the envisioned sound colour and character of the songs.
Accompanied by the Ijadu Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Vocal Art lecturer, Thami Zungu, the Opera Gala will be performed on Sunday, 8 September at 15:00 in the Linder Auditorium, 27 St Andrews Road, Parktown, Johannesburg.
