Polokwane Campus partners with royalty to advance education

17 May 2019

Learners from 24 high schools in Limpopo got first-hand information about the multitude of opportunities available to them in higher education on 26 April. On that day representatives from the Polokwane Campus were invited to an event hosted by the Royal Moletji Educational Forum to advance education in the province.

Some of the leaners who attended the event to advance education in Limpopo.

The initiative was driven by the Forum’s aim to see learners staying within the Moletji jurisdiction excel in education. This will contribute towards much needed development and growth in the area.

In addition to TUT, the Forum also invited several other stakeholders representing higher education, as well as the private sector. Their attendance added towards the diverse range of information available to learners who attended the event. Stakeholders included MTN, Vodacom, Lebowa Funerals and Capricorn College for TVET, to mention a few.

Dr Matlou Setati from the Department of Computer Science at the Polokwane Campus and his team offered career guidance to the learners present. “This was an opportunity to portray the University as the pertinent university of choice in and around the country. Using the Grades Companion document, we were able to guide learners on the various available programmes,” Dr Setati said.

It was also emphasised that learners have to pay particular attention to the closing dates for applications and the importance of applying online. By encouraging them to apply online, they were exposed to the 4th Industrial Revolution that forms an important part of the daily operations at all TUT campuses, without them even realising it.
