TUT Ombudsman appointed to CATHSETA Board

Moses Motha, the Tshwane University of Technology’s Student Ombudsman, has just become first member from the higher education sector to serve on the Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality, and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSETA) Board. The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Naledi Pandor, appointed him for the 1 March 2019 until 31 March 2020.

Moses Motha, TUT's Student Ombudsman has been appointed to the CATHSETA Board.

Following his appointment, Motha said it was an honour and a privilege to serve on the Board but, at the same time, a daunting task to take on such a responsibility. “To have been elected to also serve on the SETA's Governance and Strategy Committee, will certainly help to hone my skills in governance and strategic matters, which will be of value in my current position at TUT,” he added.

“My plan is make a meaningful contribution in the execution of the SETA’s mandate of facilitating skills development within its sub-sectors through the disbursement of grants for learning programmes,” Motha concluded.

  • CATHSETA, which was formally known as the Tourism and Hospitality Education and Training Authority (THETA) until 1 April 2012, when it became the Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority, it is regarded as one of the leaders in skills development within a diverse skills sector South Africa. Its core mandate is to facilitate skills development within its sub-sectors through the disbursement of grants for learning programmes and monitoring of education and training as outlined in the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS).
