Hospital Board to benefit from TUT expertise

5 April 2019

Dr Hamilton Mphidi, Deputy Director: Research, Innovation and Engagement was appointed as board member of the Pretoria West Hospital from 01 April 2019 to March 2022. Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, Member of the Gauteng Executive Committee (MEC) of Health, confirmed his appointment.

Dr Hamilton Mphidi was appointed to the board of the Pretoria West Hospital for a three-year period.

“I am delighted, privileged and honoured by the confidence showed in me by MEC, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa and the Gauteng Department of Health. I always wanted to share my corporate governance knowledge and experience with the community and public at large,” said Dr Mphidi.

He said the state of some of our public hospitals were less than desirable and that he would like to contribute positively to improve service delivery in the public health sector. “My experience in corporate governance acquired over a period of time will help to impart my knowledge to the community in the efficient governing of public hospitals,” added Dr Mphidi.

Board members are appointed to strengthen service delivery at the coalface and put patient care at the centre of the health system in Gauteng. They also oversee and support the effective and efficient functioning of hospitals in the province.

Hospital Boards are regarded as key stakeholders in the realisation of both National and Provincial health policies and strategies. Their functions, among others, include playing an oversight role; providing advisory and technical support to the hospital management and strengthening community participation.
