TUT update: 27 March 2019

27 March 2018

Students urged to return to class immediately

Activities for students at all the Tshwane University of Technology’s campuses resumed on 25 March 2019 and the University is committed to ensure that the 2019 academic year will be completed successfully.

False messages, claiming that activities will only resume on Monday 1 April, have come to Management’s attention. The University categorically denies these. TUT will make full use of the time at our disposal until the end of the first semester, therefore, students are urged to report for lectures immediately and work hard to ensure their own academic success.

The deadline for all students to register for the 2019 academic year has been extended to Friday, 29 March.

Appeals for exclusions should also be submitted by the deadline on 29 March.

Although no cancellations will be accepted at this time, students at all Faculties excluding Information and Communication Technology, can until 29 March, still add subjects to their courses.

A comprehensive academic calendar and plan was published today. Faculties will communicate the specifics of their plans as well as tests and other assessment measures to compensate for time lost with their students. The aim is to ensure students are not disadvantaged.

To ensure the quality of teaching and learning and that our students are prepared, semester examinations will be moved from May to June 2019. This will provide enough time for students to prepare and complete the prescribed number of teaching and learning hours.

The following important new schedules should please be noted:
  • Predicate Day will be on 27 May 2019.
  • Examinations for all students will commence from 3 to 21 June 2019.
  • Supplementary examinations will take place from 8 to 19 July 2019.
  • Special and exit examinations will take place on 28 and 29 March as well as 1 to 3 April 2019.
Sufficient measures are also in place to ensure an academically conducive environment as well as the safety of students, staff and TUT property.

Engagement with student leaders and other relevant stakeholders continues to remedy issues that might contribute to the current situation, including the ongoing accreditation of student accommodation, to the extent that an additional 6 500 beds have been approved in the past month.

Management would like to thank the entire TUT community as well as the parents and guardians of students for your patience.
