USSA re-elects TUT Sport Director to National Executive

21 October 2019

Shadrack Nthangeni, the Tshwane University of Technology’s Director of Sport and Recreation has been re-elected to the University of Sports South Africa’s National Executive Committee. He will hold the position of Chief Financial Officer and Head of Marketing until 2022.

Shadrack Nthangeni is ready to hit the ground running following his re-election into the USSA’s NEC.

The heated elections took place during USSA 25th annual celebration event. Shadrack and his collective will have the responsibility of delivering team South Africa to the 2021 World Student Games in China and other regional championships and the World Championships in 2020.

During his previous term, Shadrack ensured that the organisation became financially sustainable and that it received clean audits every time - a legacy he plans to keep alive.

During the USSA event, student athletes were also recognised for their overwhelming performance in academia and sport.

The growing need for sports endorsements and sport sponsorships means that in this new term, Shadrack should focus on improving the image of the organisation through positive media coverage during their events, locally or internationally.

Speaking to e-TUTor, Shadrack said he is humbled by his re-election to the new NEC of USSA and he thanked all the members from various universities, for their confidence in him as the only outgoing and incoming member of the NEC.

Although the elections were highly contested, Shadrack said he believed that his service to the organisation in the past three years served him well. He successfully delivered team SA to two World Student Games, 2017 in Chinese Taipei and 2019 Napoli Italy as the Deputy Chef De Mission responsible for Finance.

“My immediate goal is to harness the stakeholder’s relations with the Ministry of Sport and Recreation, National Lotteries Commission, University Sport Company, Provincial and Local Government and other new partners to ensure that we position ourselves strategically in student sports nationally and internationally,” Shadrack said.

Professor Elsabe Coetzee, Acting DVC: Student Affairs and Extra-Curricular Development said: “I am excited and proud of Mr Shadrack Ntangeni, but I am not surprised by the outcome of his re-election. Shadrack is known for his passion and dedication to university sport. His exceptionally high moral and ethical standards makes him the ideal candidate for the position of Chief Financial Officer and Head of Marketing. I wish him a most successful term and my congratulations to University Sport South Africa with this excellent executive appointment.”
