Sabelo Mbhele discharged from hospital

11 September 2019

The family of Sabelo Mbhele, who sustained injuries during an attack at the Soshanguve South Campus in the early hours of Friday, 6 September 2019, and the University, today jointly announced that he has been discharged from the George Mukhari hospital in Ga-Rankuwa on the evening of 9 September 2019.

His family will take care of him until he has recovered fully. Known as a people’s university, TUT and the family have also reached an agreement on ways in which the young man, who has already completed his qualification successfully in August 2019, will be supported during his recovery.

The family has requested respect for their privacy, to enable them to focus on caring for Mbhele during his convalescence.

TUT has pledged to work with authorities and follow the case of the suspect, who was arrested on Sunday afternoon, 8 September 2019, closely.

The suspect appeared in court yesterday, 10 September 2019. The case was postponed to 17 September to allow the SAPS to further investigate and collect evidence on the matter.
