Hector “The Motivator” Mathabe.
Bright and warm, like his favourite colour yellow, the alumnus of the department of Public Management has always seen himself as a bringer of light. A village boy with the gift of the gab and a desire for motivation, he decided early on that uplifting and inspiring others would be his chief personal and professional pursuits.
Hector is the founder of The Motivation Company, formerly known as Marang. Since its formation in 2000, the company has focused on motivating, equipping and training people to “discover and live their purpose”. It does this through uniquely formulated, outcomes-based and customised methodologies that have proved helpful to individuals and companies alike.
Today, almost two decades later, he is still as dedicated to his business, which has permitted him to travel the world, doing what he loves. His tailored motivation and teambuilding seminars are boldly imaginative and insightful. His love of performance combined with generous use of humour, make everyone of “Hector’s Motivator sessions” a pleasant blend of motivation, education and entertainment.
Hector is always geared up for motivational talks with students and staff whenever he is invited back to the university. “Charity begins at home, and this is my home. I will always come back home to inspire and motivate,” he said.
He shared his recent achievements with e-TUTor. “I have written a book about my life titled The Hector experience. The book takes readers on the journey of my life and it is doing well on the market. I have also acquired legal rights to the popular 80’s station- radio BOB. It is all mine and plans are in place to broadcasting live very soon. Many South Africans have great memories with radio BOB and it was important to me to revive it,” he said.
