Well-respected and revered Business Strategy Professor and founder of the Nelson Mandela Business School, Prof Kobus Jonker, has taken up the reigns as Director of TUT’s Business School at the beginning of January 2019.

Prof Kobus Jonker, the new Director of TUT's Business School.

His journey in academia started three decades ago, Prof Jonker said: “During my 29 plus years in the academic world, I pioneered the MBA Programme and established the Nelson Mandela Business School from scratch. During this time, I gained valuable experience in developing academic programmes, systems and structures in business schools. I was privileged to be part of expanding the Nelson Mandela Business School from relatively small beginnings, into a Business School of national prominence and recognition.

“I visited several Business Schools worldwide and was also afforded the opportunity to teach at some of these. These experiences assisted in expanding my knowledge and understanding of business schools in general, all of which has equipped me to head the TUT Business School successfully.”

Sharing some highlights of his career, Prof Jonker added that he consulted for prominent South African Companies and Government Organisations specifically in the areas of Business Strategy, Business Model Development and Globalisation. “I am strongly focused on strategy and love new challenges. Although TUT’s Business School is relatively small, it has tremendous future potential. Located in Gauteng, the most diverse and dynamic business centre in South Africa, it offers unparalleled opportunities to learn, engage and drive business change and governance renewal.”

He concluded with a firm undertaking to take the TUT Business School to new heights and prominence and to ensure its contribution will be valued and recognised, not only in South Africa but internationally as well. “My vision is to position the TUT Business School as a competitive, relevant and respected Business School in South Africa within the next 5 years. I am determined and convinced that, as a team, we can bring this about. Each team members brings a unique set of knowledge, skills and expertise to the table. I look forward to achieve everything we set out to do with the support of the staff at the Business School.”
