TUT Deputy Registrar appointed to Tshwane District hospital board

Dr Solly Pooe, the Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Deputy Registrar: Enrolment Planning and Coordination, was appointed as board member of the Tshwane District Hospital until March 2019.

Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) of Health and Chancellor of TUT, confirmed his appointment.

During his term, Dr Pooe will primarily deal with governance matters of the Hospital. He will also be required to serve within committees of the Board.

Dr Pooe is a former TUT Council member and also the current Chairperson of Tshwane FM, the University’s Pretoria based campus radio station.

He said his appointment is an honour “The MEC’s recognition of my skills has honoured and humbled me. I believe my appointment will give me an opportunity to contribute to the community as well as the effective running of the hospital. My experience as a former TUT Council member will come in handy and will definitely enable me to contribute positively towards governance matters at the hospital,” said Dr Pooe.

Hospital Boards are key stakeholders in the realisation of both National and Provincial health policies and strategies. Their functions include playing an oversight role; providing advisory and technical support to the hospital’s management; and strengthening community participation.
