29 May 2018

Two lecturers from the Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Francine du Plessis, and Anna Ramogale, are fired-up to make the most of an international 10 days 100 challenges StartUp School in entrepreneurship, technology and innovation. Starting on 5 June, the two will represent TUT during the 10-day long StartUp School hosted by the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland.

Dr Kgomotso Masilo, Head of the Department of Management andEntrepreneurship, flanked by lecturers, Francine du Plessis andAnna Ramogale.

The Haaga-Helia’s StartUp School offers courses and activities to students interested in entrepreneurship, technology and innovation. It also provides support to students who already have their own businesses.

Themed how artificial intelligence is transforming businesses and the way we live and work, the programme will give participants an opportunity to learn new work-life skills and solve real challenges with leading companies, professional experts, and inspiring coaches.

“The main purpose of our visit to Haaga-Helia will be to see how they run an event of this nature. Ultimately we want to develop something similar for TUT to foster an entrepreneurial spirit as well as encourage and inspire innovation. We will meet with the organisers and business people involved in this project,” says Francine.

“We are thrilled about this opportunity. The lecturers will gain valuable knowledge that they can share with our Entrepreneurship students in future,” said Dr Kgomotso Masilo, Head of the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship.

“The visit is part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between TUT and the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in December 2017,” she concluded.
