The annual dirACTions Festival, presented by the Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Drama and Film, aims to entice audiences with this year’s theme ACTION-REACTION. dirACTions will be staged at the Rostrum Theatre, TUT Arts Campus, from 31 July to 5 August.
There will be a variety of performances to ensure that there is
something for every audience member. This year’s event poses the question on
whether you Act or Re-act.
The Department launched the Festival to expose the public and
students to the professional workings of a theatre festival. It will feature B
Tech: Drama students as directors and undergraduate Drama students as actors. B
Tech: Drama students will also manage the Festival in its entirety through their
arts administration coursework.
The platform allows all creative participants to collaborate and
tell stories in a conventional way. It also aims to create an all-inclusive
environment, which will serve as a networking platform to advertise, market and
introduce new performing arts and artists to theatregoers and industry alike.
There will be three full productions running each night,
starting from 16:30 until 20:10. On Saturday, 5 August, the festivities will run
from 11:00 - 14:45; and a closing ceremony with exhibitions and performances is
planned from 14:45 - 20:00. There will be a total of 11 shows, and 24
performances to choose from!
