TUT's Institute for the Future of Work and UAE Embassy discuss collaboration

6 September 2023

Exploring possible areas of collaboration, the Institute for the Future of Work (IFOW) met with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Mahash Saeed Alhameli, and the UAE Economic Advisor Jacob Ssali, in August 2023

They discussed the all-important areas  of Technology and Innovation development as well as youth empowerment, which are key areas for both institutions.

With IFOW’s Annual Future of Work 4IR Dialogue to be held in October and the UAE hosting COP28 later this year, the Just Energy Transition was another area of discussion, particularly in the context of the socio-economic impact.

The engagement was fruitful, resulting in prospects of meaningful collaboration that could produce impactful solutions for the respective countries.

Areas of common interest for further exploration include:

  • Connecting IFOW with UAE institutions with a similar mandate to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices to amplify the work done by these institutions.
  • Exploring areas of synergy between TUT and UAE higher education institutions to foster mutually beneficial collaboration.
  •  Creating linkages between UAE tech-companies and IFOW to guide the commercialisation of solutions and create new possible markets   for South African technology.
