These women warriors comprise Palesa Masuku (Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences: Pharmaceutical Sciences), Thobile Kaye (Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences: Somatology), Prof Jackie Badenhorst (Department of Biotechnology and Food Technology), Dr Tshidi Mabusela (Adelaide Tambo School of Nursing Science), and Caitlin Greenberg-Harrup (Department of Fine and Studio Arts).
The group met while enrolled for Haaga-Helia’s Vocational Teacher Education Programme with a Finnish Touch offered by the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. The latter is a postgraduate degree from Finland, and TUT annually invests in lecturers for this training to enhance their teaching skills.
"The Haaga-Helia TUT8 is the eighth group that has had this wonderful opportunity to invest in our teaching skills to better the learning environments of our students," the group says.
It was during their interactions that the first seed for the Haaga-Helia Holistic Wellness Day was planted.
"The idea behind the Haaga-Helia TUT8 work community project is to enhance our ability to collaborate with students, colleagues and various vocational groups and to enable learning to take place in these networks. This will allow us to broaden our work community network and the environment we work in," they add.
The aim of the Wellness Day is to bring awareness to staff and students of the different resources available at the Arts Campus and at the university at large.
Highlights of the day, that will not be possible without the buy in of several other TUT support services, include Self-defence classes; informing the TUT community of the services of Wellness Centres on the Arts and other campuses; raising awareness of Gender-Based Violence (GBV); health check-ups; yoga sessions; talks on eating healthy on a budget; mental and physical well-being, etc. Another highlight will be a Tree of Hope for higher education, the details of which are being kept secret at this stage.
The event will start at 9:30 and end at 14:00. Limited space is available. Therefore, register now to avoid disappointment: https://forms.office.com/r/HAbGNFnB2n
