The Agreement, which was sealed by Prof Ben van Wyk, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching, Learning and Technology, on behalf of the University, will assist third year students from the departments of Administrative Finance, Administrative Management and office Management to get placements at PSETA and also receive stipends.
Speaking on the grant, Albert Sekgobela, Employability Practitioner at the Directorate Cooperative Education, said the grant will provide monthly stipends to the students for six months as they engage in their work integrated learning. “The grant is imperative, as it will ensure that our students are future ready and fully equipped to make meaningful contributions to society at large,” says Sekgobela.
“In addition to providing our students with relevant work exposure in a suitable industry, the MoA also bolster the University’s relationship with external stakeholders that are critical in providing third stream income that assists our students. We are absolutely grateful for PSETA’s contribution,” concluded Sekgobela.
PSETA’s mission:
- PSETA’s mission is to lead the development of a skilled and competent workforce in the public service sector. To achieve this, PSETA embeds skills development within wider efforts to build the state capabilities required to deliver on the National Development Plan.
- PSETA fulfils its mandate through identifying the needs in a Sector Skills Plan; regulating and driving the delivery of learning programmes; and quality assurance of training carried out in the public service. Each of these functions has sub-functions, thus skills planning includes supporting the development and implementation of Workplace Skills Plans and the training of Skills Development Facilitators and Training Committees.
