TUT alumnus nominated for Book Behind awards

5 August 2022

The BOOK BEHIND awards, an annual event aimed at recognising and celebrating authors, have nominated TUT Alumnus and staff member, Thabani Magubane, for the best upcoming male author of 2022.

Thabani Magubane.

Magubane is an author, educator, sport enthusiast and TUT BTech Sports Management graduate. For the past 10 years, he has been a University sport organiser at the rugby office and, despite spending his High School and Varsity career on sport fields, his love for writing never faded.

He is the author of two recently released novels: The Carpenter’s Son (2020), and The Black Ants (2021) and has appeared on reality talk shows on TV, radio, and social media, among others to promote these.

Between 2015 and 2017, he regularly wrote articles for Varsity Sport and in 2018 started writing his first book. He looks forward to winning an award but needs your help to do so. Please vote for him before 31 August 2022. (see attached voting form).

The Book Behind Awards aim to bring the efforts and aspiration behind a book, which are often left outside the book cover, to light. Through career exhibitions and career workshops, the Behind Book Awards aim to encourage the youth to consider literature as a career and to mentor and coach both published and unpublished authors.

Remember, voting closes on 31 August 2022.
