ICT appoints seasoned academic as Assistant Dean

Seasoned academic and passionate IT expert, Dr Deon du Plessis, has been appointed Assistant Dean of Teaching and Learning at TUT’s Faculty of Information and Communication Technology.

Dr Du Plessis, who is no newcomer to the University, has previously been the Head of the Department of Information Technology for almost five years.

According to Du Plessis one of his objectives in obtaining a PhD in Information Technology was to make a positive difference in the lives of young people. He added that he is excited to be in a position where he will play an integral part in preparing and making students ready for the future.

Explaining his outlook on life, he said fairness is central to everything he does and it will stand him in good stead in this new role at the Faculty.

In congratulating Dr  du Plessis on his appointment, Dr Etienne van Wyk, Executive Dean of the Faculty of ICT and Interim Campus rector: Soshanguve Campuses, said Du Plessis’s’ extensive experience in industry where he was head of the IT department at a large mining group, as well as his tenure as HoD of an academic department, has prepared him exceptionally well for this job.
